The role

The role leads the L&D part of the EC – the team is responsible for the full employee lifecycle of all trainees at Saffery’s. The EC Team Lead will report directly to the Head of Learning and Development.

It is envisioned that this team will work in synchronicity so that team members will be able support and partner with their other colleagues in the team.

 

The responsibilities

  • This role will be in conjunction with the EC Talent Acquisition Lead to develop a full annual calendar to plan core recruitment and development initiatives for all forms of early careers (schools, universities, trainees, etc.).
  • Both EC Leads work with trust and transparency and will attempt to resolve their challenges amongst their team before escalation to their managers. It is likely that both will feedback on each other’s for performance reviews, hence the importance to be constructive and transparent up front.
  • The EC Team Lead will manage the entire L&D EC team.
  • This role will manage and motivate members of the EC team as well as identify sponsors, ambassadors both in the business and with external bodies, such as institute bodies. Management of the team will also require ensuring the team use available technology to its full function and capacity.
  • This role will develop an overall L&D strategy for EC that is easy to articulate to the People Experience team, the business (managers and partners) and to external stakeholders (e.g. training suppliers, professional bodies, etc.). The strategy should also be implementable with clear timelines and milestones. It should comprise of the following: onboarding, performance tracking, external and internal training calendars and contact with professional bodies and other appropriate groups, effective and timely comms to trainees and management, effective usage of the apprenticeship levy, alignment with the firm wide L&D strategy.
  • This role leads the team in developing and implementing a fit for purpose, inclusive and commercially focused L&D strategy, using the best possible access to suppliers and technologies to drive efficiencies and have an excellent trainee and management experience.
  • This role works with senior management and partners to understand their challenges, success, etc. This role also keeps the Talent Managers and the People operations teams aware of the full cycle and process so they can plan/be involved accordingly.
  • This role sets and manages the budget for L&D for EC, upon approval for each financial year.
  • The EC trainee development programmes will be a key focus, a collaborative approach will need to be adopted when working with the Technical Teams, as well other key stakeholders. Continued development and enhancement of these programmes is key. The team will be required to provide on site support for the programmes.
  • Diversity is a big focus for EC programmes, hence this role will work with the EDI Manager and other stakeholders to ensure that the trainee programme is fair and inclusive to enable success and promotion.
  • This role is responsible for ensuring that every meaningful step of the L&D trainee process is measured and reported on. This will provide opportunity to identify gaps, challenges and successes, as well as predictive analytics to enable the business to make informed decisions. The data and reporting will also equip the EC team with info to help manage expectations and educate the business with changes in the EC arena.
  • This role identifies opportunities for learning across the EC team and the broader People Experience team.
  • This role is responsible for upholding the Saffery Champness values and ensuring they limit any compromise to both the Saffery’s employment and HR brands. As a holder of far-reaching portfolios, they should always represent their team and colleagues in the most positive light.

 

The team

The role sits within the Early Careers Talent Acquisition team, part of the wider People Experience team in a collegiate environment with a culture of supporting the development of everyone within it.

 

You

  • Experienced practitioner with relevant qualifications. Likely to have a relevant degree or equivalent and may be a part qualified or qualified professional within a discipline or have extensive equivalent experience.
  • Experience of supervising colleagues, providing technical guidance, and ensuring compliance with policy and procedure.
  • Experience within area to handle most situations without supervision and provide advice and guidance to others.
  • Experience of interpreting policy and developing procedures/systems.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex information/data and understand the impact on their discipline and wider firm.
  • Able to establish and maintain strong and credible working relationships, influence others and may be required to motivate a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; including communicating with technical and non-technical clients and staff at all organisational levels.
  • High levels of commitment and ability to act when necessary.
  • Team-focused mentality, understanding that the Function must work collaboratively to drive success.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to be persuasive.
  • Able to use judgement / experience to tackle issues and seek advice on more complex problems.
  • Strong analytical skills, based on systems and models relevant to the field of work.
  • Builds partnerships and works collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.
